Amazon has announced a significant investment of $10 billion in Mississippi to establish two data center complexes within Madison County’s industrial parks, marking the state’s largest capital investment to date. This initiative, detailed by Amazon Web Services, aligns with the company’s expansive growth strategy, particularly in the cloud computing arena. Governor Tate Reeves finalized the deal on January 30, 2024, incorporating $44 million in state incentives, with expectations for the data centers to be operational by 2027 at the latest.
This move is part of Amazon’s broader investment in Mississippi, totaling $2.3 billion since 2010, which has included fulfillment centers, delivery stations, renewable energy projects, and the state’s inaugural utility-scale wind farm. Amazon’s commitment to the state is anticipated to generate hundreds of high-tech jobs, supporting Mississippi’s ambitions to enhance its business environment, especially within the tech sector.
This development also reflects Amazon’s ongoing focus on expanding its technological infrastructure, as evidenced by recent significant data center investments in Ohio and other locations, emphasizing the company’s shift towards data-centric projects amidst varying activities in other sectors.
